Washers Tournament

Deutschenfest just got that much better, we found a washers tournament at the Green/Red Barn to participate in.  It was our first one and apparently we should have done some better research.  We thought we were smart getting a few practice rounds in the weekend before but it ends up we were practicing on the wrong type of boards.  We showed up at the tournament and instead on a small circle in a large box we were playing on long thin boards with three holes.  All in all we held our own and advanced a few rounds so I was really proud of ourselves.  My biggest fear was getting skunked in the first round.  It was a lot of fun in the end and afterwards we enjoyed some German food, beer, and music at the festival.

San Diego

Another work perk, we're based in San Diego so I get to travel to sunny California almost every month!  This time I was out there for 2 weeks straight so Shaun flew out and joined me for a weekend of sun & fun!  We had a fun triple date with my coworkers on Friday night and then spent Saturday in Coronado enjoying the sun & sand at the famous Hotel Del.  It was a little slice of paradise and hard to get back on the ferry to return to the gas lamp district.  But it was worth it after all as we ended the evening at Oceanaire for some wine and oysters.  I could get used to weekends like this.  Is a move to San Diego in our future?!?!  A girl can dream can't she ;)

Italy

I really do have some great perks that come along with my job, site visits to Europe is one of them!  I don't know how I got so lucky but I'll take it, and Shaun will too ;)  He was able to tag along with me for part of my Italy trip and we enjoyed an amazing weekend in Venice.

I headed out to Northern Italy to do site visits at Aviano Air Force Base & Vicenza before meeting up with Shaun for a mini vaca.  I picked him up at the airport and we took a water taxi over to Venice for a weekend of sightseeing, gondola rides, and lots of good food and prosecco.

We also headed to Verona, home of the Montague's and Capulet's.  It was very neat to see Juliet's balcony and all the letters that are left there to find true love.  It's a very romantic place and Shaun feel for the ritual to rub the statue for good luck, I think the picture speaks for itself ;)

Unfortunately Shaun had to head home and I back to work, but my work continued in Southern Italy so I can't really complain.  I headed down to Naples and Sigonella for more site visits and then was able to end my trip with a day in Rome before heading back to the States.  I've become an expert at speed tourism and how to fit the most into one day as possible!

While I was finishing my travels overseas, Shaun was back in Austin enjoying Derby weekend.  It's not the same as being in Louisville but Shaun found a great place, Trifecta, to watch the races and ended up winning a free bar tab thanks to a cornhole tournament.  He really has some mad skills!
